Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has welcomed yesterday's Cabinet decision to approve the upgrading of the Nagpur airport to a world class passenger and cargo hub to boost tourism and international trade, saying that it would generate large-scale employment for the embattled Vidharbha region. Deshmukh said, "Finally the long-standing demand has been met which would, among other things, also generate large-scale employment for the embattled Vidharbha region." Talking to a serried class of journalists here last night, Deshmukh said, "It feels good that finally a long-felt demand has been met and it is a victory of the people of the entire state." He said the handing over of the project by the Centre to the state government would take place as soon as possible. Procedural formalities regarding a third international airport near Panwel, near Mumbai, would start within the next six months. Goods train derails near Nagpur
Nagpur: Ten wagons of a Guwahati-bound goods train derailed near Gondia in Maharashtra this morning, disrupting rail traffic. The derailment occurred between Bortalao and Darekasa sections in Nagpur division of South East Central Railway. The rice-laden wagons fell on the adjoining track, disrupting traffic between Nagpur and Durg, official sources said. Nagpur med college to get Rs 100 cr grant:Ramadoss The Nagpur medical college may receive a grant of Rs 100 crore under the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, to upgrade it to AIIMS standards, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Anbumani Ramadoss said today.
The ministry has already announced the grant of Rs 100 crore to eight institutions across the country as part of phase-I of the scheme. The J J Group of Hospitals here was a beneficiary in the first phase and the implementation of the scheme was formally started today after the Maharashtra government handed over a cheque of Rs 20 crore as its share of the project. "Within a month I will be moving a note for upgrading five to six medical colleges in the country and Nagpur would be the first among that list. I will personally meet the Prime Minister," Ramadoss said. While speaking at a function organised by the Maharashtra government to felicitate him for making the grant to J J Hospital, the minister said, "Union Ministers Murli Deora,Vilas Muttemwar and Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh can also meet the PM. |
